About the Journal

Field of Pediatric critical care has grown rapidly in past ten years in India as well as surrounding asian countries.For many years it was felt that since critically ill children in this part of the world have unique issues related to nutritional issues, disease patterns , severity of illness and resource limitations ,a scientific journal dedicated to field of pediatric critical care is needed. IAP intensive care chapter had started the publication entitled”Intensivist” as a regular publication featuring articles,case reports,chapter news and events for the members at large.IAP Intensive care chapter took up this project to next level:launch of Journal of Pediatric critical care…a peer reviewed journal under the leadership of Founder Editor in Chief Praveen Khilnani with an entire team of Editorial board. This is a quarterly publication by IAP intensive care chapter..

From Editors Desk

Dear Colleagues and readers

July-Septemeber 2017 issue of the journal of pediatric critical care is now published and available on line.

Highlight of this issue is a special Symposium “Tropical infections: Topical relevance” edited by guest editors Dr. M. Jayshree and Dr. Sunit Singhi. Editorial team hopes that this symposium delivers a comprehensive evidence based detailed review on Tropical infections and related issues encountered at tertiary Pediatric Intensive Care Units.

Original research articles are on the rise from the Asian subcontinent as well as from different regions of India. In its 3rd year the journal has more than 3000 pediatricians and intensivist followers on line as well as on facebook page. For next few issues hard copy will continue to be published for the IAP intensive care chapter members and subscribers, however just like many other journals JPCC will also be published on line and in E-format.

Amongst other highlights include original articles related to mechanical ventilation : Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: A Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Experience from Eastern Indian State by Leena Das;et al . Mechanical Ventilation practices in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit located at rural tertiary care teaching hospital of Gujarat – A retrolective descriptive study by Hemal Dave,et al. Non respiratory causes of mechanical ventilation- a retrospective study in a tertiary care hospital by Manasa Shetty et al. On ICU technology this issue has an original study on Comparison of noninvasive oscillometric and intra-arterial blood pressure measurements in children admitted to the Pediatric intensive care unit by Yogesh Jadhav;et al. Oral COX inhibitors for closure of hemodynamically significant Patent Ductus Arteriosus in Neonates : A retrospective analysis at a tertiary center in central India by Jenisha Jain;et al. Two interesting studies from Aga Khan university Pakistan: Pattern and Outcome of Severe childhood Unintentional Injuries from Pediatric Intensive Care Unit by Qalab Abbas;et al. and An Audit of Use of Maintenance Intravenous Fluid in Children Presenting in Pediatric Emergency Room of a Developing Country by Sayeda Ghazala Irfan Kazi;et al. are important to the practicing intensivist.

In addition some interesting case reports are published such as Severe Tracheobronchitis associated with Disseminated Varicella in an Immunocompromised Child by Pradeep kumar Sharma, Recurrent Guillain-Barre Syndrome in a Pediatric patient - Residual opthalmoplegia that recovered with IV immunoglobulins by Sandeep Kadam;et al. A rare case of compound heterozygous B-thalassemia and hereditary persistence of fetal hemoglobin with Moya-moya disease by Ashok Gupta;et al.

As regular features Journal scan and short PICU Quiz remain an integral part of the journal. PICU quiz includes various topics on infections with detailed explanation of answers with references.

On line submission by authors and prompt review by esteemed reviewers are highly appreciated for timely publication of the quarterly issues of Journal of Pediatric Critical care.
