About the Journal

Field of Pediatric critical care has grown rapidly in past ten years in India as well as surrounding asian countries.For many years it was felt that since critically ill children in this part of the world have unique issues related to nutritional issues, disease patterns , severity of illness and resource limitations ,a scientific journal dedicated to field of pediatric critical care is needed. IAP intensive care chapter had started the publication entitled”Intensivist” as a regular publication featuring articles,case reports,chapter news and events for the members at large.IAP Intensive care chapter took up this project to next level:launch of Journal of Pediatric critical care…a peer reviewed journal under the leadership of Founder Editor in Chief Praveen Khilnani with an entire team of Editorial board. This is a quarterly publication by IAP intensive care chapter..

Happy New Year !!

January March 2017 issue of the journal of pediatric critical care is now published and available on line. After indexing in Index Copernicus ,Pub Med indexing is expected shortly

High light of this issue is a special Symposium “Pediatric Trauma, It is Time to Act” edited by guest editors Dr Geethanjali Ramachandra and Dr P Khilnani where in experienced invited faculty from different parts of the world (Australia, India ,Dubai, UK and USA) have shared their views on different aspects of Pediatric trauma, (as a preventable disease) to discuss Indian scenario, road map forward, setting up a trauma centre with variable resource settings, hemorrhagic shock,cervical spine, traumatic brain, thoracoabdominal injuries and further more : A special article on Imaging with particular reference to Pediatric trauma has also been included by Medanta medicity Gurgaon team consisting of Dr. Arvind Pandey, Dr.Manider S. Dhaliwal, Dr. Veena Raghunathan; et al.

Editorial team hopes that this symposium delivers a comprehensive evidence based detailed review on Pediatric trauma related issues encountered in most emergency rooms as well as tertiary pediatric intensive care units

Amongst other highlights include an original article related to “Hypertonic Saline: Safe therapy for Children with Acute Brain Insult in Emergency Department of Low and Middle Income Country” and experience from Agha khan university from Pakistan by Nadia Mohammad;et al, Latest in evidence based literature (journal scan put together by BLK superspeciality hospital team led by Dr Naresh Lal. as well as an ever stimulating PICU Quiz hoped to be a thought provoking educational resource.

Interesting case reports from James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital ,Greenville, North Carolina.USA by Wiliam Novotny;et al on profound hypernatremic dehydration associated with lamellar Icthyosis as well as a case report from Turkey regarding valproate toxicity by Mehmet Yusuf Sari are worth a good read. Of note is a A brief but technically useful report on placement of “PICC:percutaneously inserted central line in critically ill newborns- our learning curve” by Jenisha Jain, and Arun Edwin of Department of Neonatology and Pediatrics from choithram hospital, Indore.

Online submission by authors and prompt review by esteemed reviewers have been the main reason for timely publication of the quarterly issues of Journal of Pediatric Critical care.
