About the Journal

Field of Pediatric critical care has grown rapidly in past ten years in India as well as surrounding asian countries.For many years it was felt that since critically ill children in this part of the world have unique issues related to nutritional issues, disease patterns , severity of illness and resource limitations ,a scientific journal dedicated to field of pediatric critical care is needed. IAP intensive care chapter had started the publication entitled”Intensivist” as a regular publication featuring articles,case reports,chapter news and events for the members at large.IAP Intensive care chapter took up this project to next level:launch of Journal of Pediatric critical care…a peer reviewed journal under the leadership of Founder Editor in Chief Praveen Khilnani with an entire team of Editorial board. This is a quarterly publication by IAP intensive care chapter..

Dear Colleagues and readers

April-june 2017 issue of thejournal of pediatric critical care is now published and available on line.

Highlight of this issue is a special Symposium "ECMO:Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation" edited by guest editors Dr Suneel Pooboni and Dr P Khilnani where in experienced invited faculty from different parts of the world(Australia, India ,Dubai, UK and USA) have shared their views on different aspects of ECMO, to discuss Indian scenario, road map forward, setting up an ECMO program with variable resource settings as well as latest publications and a short quiz related to ECMO .

Symposium topics include general review ofECMO, Indian perspective, Challenges and Opportunities, ECMO cannulation, pediatric cardiac ECMO, Coagulation management ,ECMO trouble shooting, ECMO for toxic injestion, ECMO transport. Latest in evidence based literature on latest studies on ECMOGournal scan) put together by Sir Gangaram hospital hospital team led by Dr Anil sachdev as well as an ever stimulating PICU Quiz on ECMO hoped to be a thought provoking educational resource. A special summary abstract is also published on pediatric multicentric ECMO data from Inspired group(Indian network of Specialist Pediatric intensivists for research Education and data) under the college of pedicatric critical care,lndia.

Editorial team hopes that this symposium delivers a comprehensive evidence based detailed review on ECMO and related issues encountered at tertiary pediatric intensive care units.

Amongst other highlights include original articles related to "Core to toe temperature gradient during early post cardiac surgery period does not correlate with cardiac output in pediatric population." by Muhammed Riyas K Rahmath; et al from Hamad General Hospital and Sidra Medical and Research Centre, Doha, Qatar. In addition there are two original publications from Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara(SDM) Medical College and Hospital ,Dharwad,Karnataka ,India entitled "ARetrospective study on clinical Profile and Outcome ofDengue Fever Admitted in a Tertiary Care Center" by Dr Haridarshan GI; et al and "A retrospective study on clinical profile and outcome of respiratory cause of ventilation in children with age group between lmonth to 5 years in SDM picu, a tertiary centre, Dharwad" by Dr Vijay Kulkarni;et al.

On line submission by authors and prompt review by esteemed reviewers are highly appreciated for timely publication of the quarterly issues ofJournal ofPediatric Critical care.
