About the Journal

Field of Pediatric critical care has grown rapidly in past ten years in India as well as surrounding asian countries.For many years it was felt that since critically ill children in this part of the world have unique issues related to nutritional issues, disease patterns , severity of illness and resource limitations ,a scientific journal dedicated to field of pediatric critical care is needed. IAP intensive care chapter had started the publication entitled”Intensivist” as a regular publication featuring articles,case reports,chapter news and events for the members at large.IAP Intensive care chapter took up this project to next level:launch of Journal of Pediatric critical care…a peer reviewed journal under the leadership of Founder Editor in Chief Praveen Khilnani with an entire team of Editorial board. This is a quarterly publication by IAP intensive care chapter..

October-December 2016 issue of the journal of pediatric critical care is now published and available on line. Major mile stone this year has been Indexing in Index Copernicus international taking this journal to an international pedestal. Next step being actively persued is indexing in other major medical search networks such as medline and Pub Med.

High light of this issue is a special Symposium “Gastrointestinal issues in Pediatric critical care” edited by guest editors Dr Maninder S Dhaliwal and Dr P Khilnani where in experienced invited faculty from different parts of the world (Australia, India, Dubai, UK and USA) have shared their views on different aspects of GI issues: Acute liver failure, Acute Gastrointestinal bleeding, Acute pancreatitis, intraabdominal hypertension, abdominal compartment syndrome and many more commonly encountered gastrointestinal issues

Editorial team hopes that this symposium delivers a comprehensive evidence based detailed review on gastrointestinal issues encountered in most tertiary pediatric intensive care units.

A detailed special invited review of humidifi ed high fl ow nasal cannula (HHFNC) oxygen therapy is published in current issue, which is now a commonly used technology in all Pediatric intensive care units around the world by Kesavsan and Ramachandran, Chennai, India

Additionally Very interesting and rare case reports related to use of ECMO in a Dengue patient with severe myocardial dysfunction by Abhijit Bagde,Narayan Hrudalya, Lung ultrasound for detection of pneumothorax by Tiago Henrique de Souza;et al (Brazil) and Acute Necrotising Encephalitis associated with Infl uenza infection by Mukherjee; etal from Mumbai, India, Oro Facial Digital Syndrome Type 2- An Indian case report by Bansal; et al from Jaipur, India.

latest in evidence based literature (journal scan put together by CMC Vellore team: Pragathesh Palaniappan and Ebor Jacob James ) as well as an ever stimulating PICU Quiz (pediatric cardiac issues) are hoped to be thought provoking educational resource.
